The Process of Parenting

The purpose of this website is to give parents and caregivers up-to-date information so they can translate the love they feel for their children into daily actions that help children grow. We will also talk about ways parents may interact with other important people in children’s lives like teachers, principals, coaches, and other parents, to create a positive social climate at school and in the community. Being a good parent doesn’t mean doing it all by yourself, part of the job is to make use of the social forces around you to help raise children so they feel supported

Another intention of the web site is to offer support to parents by answering specific questions at Ask Dr. Brooks and giving links to popular articles, research and other pertinent information.

An additional emphasis here is on the joys and satisfactions of raising children.  We all know the stresses and problems, but we talk very little about the joys all parents experience.  An extensive study in 1949 interviewed parents about their joys and problems and found joys outnumber the difficulties almost 3 to 1.  I want to get up-to-date information from parents on what their joys with children are today.

Parents are not the only influences in children’s lives but they are the most important and enduring and their guidance shapes children’s entry into the wider social world.  Information here can help parents translate the love they feel for their children into daily actions that help children grow.
